Amid a defiant statement to the United States, Leader Vladimir Putin informed PM Narendra Modi that Russia is prepared to guarantee “uninterrupted” supplies of energy resources to India. These remarks came as the two leaders met in the Indian capital and asserted their bilateral ties were “resilient to external pressure.”

The statement, issued after the annual summit, seemed to be targeted at Washington, that have sought to urge New Delhi into reducing its close ties with Moscow. This comes comes after previous US actions, such as the imposition of trade penalties targeting New Delhi due to its buying of Moscow's energy exports.
“Moscow remains a trustworthy exporter of energy resources and everything required for the growth of India’s economy,” the Russian president said. “We are ready to continue securing the uninterrupted supply of resources for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”
Modi, though he did not mentioning oil specifically, echoed the theme by stating that “a stable energy base has been a strong and crucial pillar of the bilateral partnership.”

Prior to the meeting, via a television interview, Putin had questioned Washington's stance regarding India's energy purchases. Putin stated, “When Washington is entitled to buy our uranium, how can you deny India enjoy the same privilege?”
This trip marked his initial trip to India following the start of the war in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi engaged in a visible attempt to demonstrate that the friendship between the two leaders remained intact.
